■ Three Massillon men. who last summer played prominent parts in the strike at local plants of the Republic Steel Corp., today- were sentenced to serve prison terms when they pleaded guilty before Federal Judge Paul Jones in Cleveland to indictments Charging them with obstructing the Tmails during the controversy between ■“little steel” and the Steel Workers Organising Committee of the CIO,The local men who entered guilty pleas were Joseph Morton, president of the CIO union at Republic’s Central Alloy plant, indicted on nine counts, and Leo Cox, CIO picket captain.-and Kenneth Steed, president pi the CIO chapter of Republic’s Union Drawn Steel' plant, indicted on ’one count each.To Leave Jan. 3 Morton was sentenced to serve two months at the Milan, Mich., tj. S. reformatory while Cox and Steed -were sentenced to serve 30 days each at the same prison. They were given until Jan. 3 to arrange their private affairs.In addition to the three Massillon men, six from Youngstown and Warren also entered-guilty pleas to similar charges. They were given 'suspended sentences of six months each and-placed on probation.They u were Dominic 'Scarpine, Youngstown, and Sain/ Oaputo, War-/ren 'indicted, on two counts .'each; U Mike ' Walker, Tony Crish and Theo-■idofe” Pictowskr; -Youngstown, -and Will Williams, Warren, indicted onone count each.^ Morton* who is president of the New Deal lodge of the SWOCwhich led the strike at the local Republic plant, was charged withstopping Raymond lt;sehwina,David G Matthews and John Miller. local, pestpoffice employes, on 16 occasions between June 1 and June 16 when they attempted to deliver special delivery parcels to the Massillon plant.- Steed, president of the Square Deal lodge of Union Drawn Steel, was charge with stopping the same special delivery messengers nine times between the same dates3cft fh tl hi O ro xf -t4 r/j. cr- m ?r
