He attended the University of Texas in 1918, and the following year entered the United States Military Academy, graduating with the class of 1923.During World War II he served in the South Pacific in 1942 and 1943 and participated in the Solomons and Philippine Islands campaigns. He was decorated witl the Distinguished Service Medal Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He also received the Greek Distinguished Service Medal for the part he played with the American Mission in Greece, in 1948 and1949.Colonel Holland served as chiefof the Reserve components division. G3, at Fort Totten, N. Y., prior to coining to Fourth Army headquarters in January, 1951. Before taking over the helm of theG3 section in November that year he was assistant G3.
