Lawrence Meyer TurbovskyLawrence Meyer Turbovsky died in a Sacramento hospital Nov. 25 after a long illness. The Camino resident was a native of Fresno.He is survived by his wife GiGi. stepdaughter Checka, his father Moms Turbovsky and his sister Lynn Davies.A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mother Lode Lions Hall at Missouri Flat and Pleasant Valley roads in Diamond Springs.Mr. Turbovsky was known among his fellow Lions as Larry “Turbo Turbovsky because of the energetic enthusiasm he brought to the volunteer community service group. Lions Club members in the greater Sacramento area were so impressed with Mr. Turbovosky’s energy and dedication to Lionism that they elected him governor of District 4-C5 of Lions International in 1992. Before that he had served as president of the Pony Express Lions Club. He also was past chairman of the Marshall Zone and past chairman of the Washoe Region.Two new clubs tapped into his energy to be their official “guiding Lion” during their formation — Pioneer Lions in Ml Aukum and Apple Hills Lions in Camino.Mr. Turbovsky, who had fought off cancer in the past, was a keynote speaker for the City of Hope, a cancer research project of Lions International.His recent participation in Lions was as a member of the board of Northern California Lions Sight Association, board member of (he Lions Education Foundation and chief financial officer for the Sacramento Hearing Services Center’s board. He also worked on the Train the Trainer program through the Lions International’s Multiple District 4 Leadership Committee.Local arrangements were handled by Memory Chapel.
