A letter received by Mr. and Mrs. George GSbbs from their niece, Miss jBfrda Hunt a Howard county nurse in ' service over there.Dear Aunt Mary, and Uncle Geoffee:-{ I have been so sure everyday that I ’ would receive a letter from you telling' me ell about Uncle George’s operation, who the surgeon was, nurses, etc. What do you think of my profession i now uncle? t)onft you like it better than you did? If you have never read Speaking of Operations** it would be a good book to read now that you have been operated on, 3'oii will appreciate it now, where you woulln’t . have before your operation.\ August is the last news I have had rfrom you but I know you have been !sO very busy with sickness and everything that you haven’t had time to write. It lias been ages too since I heard from Aunt Kate. I suppose some day I will receive letters from■altj We are having such wonderful weather now and how we do enjoy it for it has been terrible, rain* mud etc. and no sunshine. But now, its great, getting cooler all the time though and I do dread a winter here but we have plenty clothes, large Quantity of coal wood etc, and a beautiful bunch of new stoves so I think we will be real comfy. Then the Red Cross has furnished a villa for us known as the .Nurses club arid here It is wonderful. Bo warrii and comfy, comfortable chairs, piano, vlctrofa, magazines, daily papers rugs on the floor, real American curtains and every afternoon they serve coffee, tea or cocoa and on Wednesdays and Sundays sandwiches. Its the nearest thing to home I have seen in France. I intend to spend my spare time this winter atthe club. Have two or three writing rooms with stationery, ink, pen, etc. furnished. It is just wonderful and the Bed Cross is' doing equally as much for the boys. Believe mo the Red Cross deserves all kind Of praise and credit for what they are doing over here. Also the Salvation Army is taking quite a prominent place at the front. No more brick* at the drum* Ja what the boy* are saying now.Nothing unusual to write about. Did you get the cards I sent while on my vacation. Didn't write any letters while away just looked and looked. Not so busy now for which we are all very thankful In many nays.Tis lunch time so must run along.Love to both,BIRD A,
