Cl \SS OF 1940, Masontown High school, yesterday dedicated a bronze plaque in memory 01 iwo classmates who lost their lives in World War II The plaque, which was accepted by Principal Lester A. Evans, is in honor of Flight Officer David R Breakwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Breakwell, Maple avenue, and Private Michael J. Hughes, son of Mr and Mrs Owen Hughes, Grays Landing Flight Officer Breakwell was killed December 30, 1044. when his fighter plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico Private Hughes, of the 600th Tank Destroyer Battalion, lost his life in combat in Belgium, December 21. the same year The day before he was killed. Private Hughes was awarded the Bronze Star \bove, Mr. Evans receives the plaque from Clarence Pelaghi, president of the class of 1040 At the left is Dr R J Shields, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, Masontown. and on the right, Mrs E V Pierce, pastor of the Masontown Methodist church, of which the deceased were members.—Heral ’ by Topper
