There were no - immediate reports on damage.mentalaid?i rLOS ANGELES (UPI) - Two UCLA researchers believe, the hallucinatory drug LSD’ has promise as an aid in psychotherapy for severely retarded psychotic children.The scientists, Drs. James 0. Simmons and 0. Ivar Lovaas, said Tuesday they had experienced success in LSD experiments, at the UCLA Neurospy-chiatric Institute with identical twins suffering from an extreme form of schizophrenia called autism. „Autism is characterized by an inability to relate to people or any animate .objects; failure to acquire general social behavior, including speech, and bizarre rhythmic repetitive movement' of arms and hands or a rocking movement of the body.Simmons and Lovaas said the twins were given * a series of standard tests of social behavior with and without LSD.They said consistent behavioral changes occurred after LSD. The changes suggest that LSD might increase the effectiveness of psychotherapy fori autistic children, they added.
