There was no assessmentof the damage, if any, to-the Red shore guns.The Ingersoll w,as cruising in the Gulf of Tonkin about a dozen miles south of Dong Hoi when Communist batteries fired, the command said.A NORTH Vietnamese broadcast said its shore batteries heavily damaged a U.S. warship off the Dong Hoi coast. It did not say whether this was the Ingersoll. It charged the ship entered territorial \vaters.
