Johusonvilie Evacuated—Our Troops Around at Franklin —Thouuui Largely Reinforced—A Battle Imminent.Nahvii,ls, December 1,1S64.There are so many and various reports circulating about the streets here, that the well-disposed inhabitants of Nashville could not be much more scared if a Jonah disemboweled some leviathan, either of the land or deep, and stood forth among them to warnthem of the coming dissolution of the world.Old women in petticoats almost forgot to drink their tea last night, so sure were they of waking up m rcbeldom. They slept all night under the horrid influence of a night-marc, in which Jeff Davis ! cut«a jibbering, ghastly figure, in acting the high priest in some savage ritual, in which the poor victim was to be immolated.There is another class of old women here, too, who strut in pantaloons, and gossip in groups at every street corner. These sense onany scared wight who comes in frd9 the country with a most woful countenance and fearful tales of “hair breadth escapes by floodand field.” Such scared creatures, who, if they but hear a blast, magnify it into a park of artillery, and but see a few scouts riding hastily along, they grow into a regiment of rebel cavalry.Full of these Quixotic whims they rush into town.
