House fireA fire Saturday morning completely destroyed the home of Mrs. Alice Stiles in Humeston and badly burned Mrs. Stiles. The fire was discovered by Melvin Pool who was passing by.Mrs. Stiles was preparing dinner for her son, Richard Eikleberry of Des Moines, whom she was expecting.In some manner, the fat from the meat caught fire on the kerosene stove and Mrs. Stiles, who is partially blind, was attempting to extinguish the flames when Mr. Pool arrived.She was taken to the Wayne County Hospital by ambu lance, where she remains a patient. Firemen were unable to contain the blaze, and the house and most of its contents soon burned to the ground.Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pool and daughter of Garner spent the Veteran’s Day holiday with his mother, Rosie Pool.Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nichols and Kim of Chariton were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Marks. Maynard Coffey of Mound, Minn, called in the evening.
