Death of a Soldier at Lafayette Park. —On Sunday last a soldier named Crawford, from Leavenworth, Indiana, a member of Company. D, in the twenty-third Indianareg-iment, died of typhoid fever, in the hospital tent of that regiment at Lafayette Park. He was ill when the regiment was ordered to St. Louis, but when strongly urged by his captain to remain behind, he replied that h | would rather die on the way than to remain behind. Last week his disease assumed a typhoid form, and resulted in his death on Sunday. Bev. John D. Kodgera, chaplain of the , regiment, conducted the funeral exercises, and a precession of soldiers followed his remains to the burying ground in the Southwestern part of the city.He was held in very high esteem by his comrades, and his death was the subject of general grief and regret. —St. Louis Democrat. ■ « —» »-
