They range from aircraft plants to those producing tanks, explosives, guns, chemicals, steel, radio and radar, shipbuilding and ammunition.Machine tools and production equipment of the plants, with few exceptions, also will be declared surplus, the department said.The 10 biggest plants, representing an estimated cost of $593,443 434. include tw o government-owned establishments ofother eight are Moines Ordnance plant,Moines, Iowa: Gopher Ordnance Works. St. Paul, Minn.: Illinois Ordnance plant, Carbondale, 111.; Keystone Ordnance Works, Geneva, Pa.: Milan Ordnance Center. Milan, Tenn.: Oklahoma Ordnance Plant, Pryor, Oklahoma: jPlum Brook Ordnance Works, Sandusky, Ohio: and the Sangamon Ordnance Plant, Illiopolis, Illinois.The department satd government-owned plants operated for the army which are not included among the 252 have been selected tentatively for retention on astand-by basis or for storage facilities.The list of plants declared surplus included these army serviceforces plants (names preceded byan “x mean plant built by De-“xx” mean planttfc.2 Ford Motor Company’s Riv-fense Plant Corporation: thosepreceded by alongside a company’s privately owmed plant, and those w*ith nosuch designation are army-owned:“X” and “XX” Cardox Corporation.
