Joseph H. Smart, regional director of thewar relocation authority, announced that an advance contingent of 212 evacuees from the Merced, Cal, assembly center reached theproject by special train yesterday,They immediately began to help nearly 1,000 construction workers speed preparations for handling an anticipated 8.000 additional evacuees expected before the first of the year. First arrivals included 192 men, 19 women and one infant.
