N. M. Wright.The charter membership iH twenty-five, and that number was easily secured for tin? formal organization.Mrs. Thomas M. Hightower, wife of .a brave Confederate soldier, Lieut. T. M. Hightower of Company “D,” which wont out from l*olk county, wan made president of the chapter.Mrs. J. A. Wynn was chosen as first vice-president, and Mrs.J. K. Burton second vice-president.Miss Oallie Byrd was made re- 1 cording secretary, and Mrs. J.W. Barr treasurer.4Mrs. Lucy Henderson was elee^, tod corresponding secretary, and Mrs. F. A. Irwin historian.Tho Daughters constitute a patriotic band of women—daugh- ( tors, wives, sisters, nieces of Confederate soldiers who did patriotic and noble service for the South,—and their especial work is to collect and preserve all historic facts connected with the Confederacy and the men who served it. They have awakened a healthy public interest in the authenticity and reliability ofhistories used in our publicschools, and in many ways haveaided the cause of truth in Southern history.The Daughters have also established the beautiful custom of conferring Crosses of Honor on the veterans of the South, and this is one of the most pleasing and impressive features of their work. Everywhere throughout the South the good women, whose husbands mid fathers and brothers fought in the Confederate army, have pinned these crosses as badges of honor on all survivors whose records were found worthy of the same.The chapter here starts out with a splendid membership, and a largo number will be added thereto from the ranks of our patriotic women who are eligible for membership. All should join the Cedartown chapter and make it one of the most enthusiastic and active in the state.
