Silver Star Is Awarded HowardDoughertyA silver Star has been awarded posthumously to Corp. Howard F. Dougherty, son of Mrs. Ella Dougherty, according to a communication received by her this week from the War Department.The decoration will be presented to the mother by some officer from1 ' f %v'*adquarters of the Fourth Armys in San Antonio, the letter stated. 2 Text of the citation is as fol-e lows:e “For gallantry in action on 22 1 February. 1945. As Corporal 1 Dougherty's wire crew was engaged in repairing an important line to the battalion forward command post, the enemy unleased a withering motar and artillery barrage. Undaunted, he contin-/wP]inviViued his task and was severelynlt;Ciine\wounded. Ordering his crew to continue their work as he crawled along the ground, using his el-j bows for leverage, and lying flat, j he repaired two more breaks in 3 the wire before he collapsed from 1 loss of blood.
