3 More MenOf This Arear VictimsLieut Vsccelleo of Chatham KilledfThree fighting men from this section were listed as total war casualties by the War Department last night.They included Lieutenant Charles Hobson Viccellio of Chatham, Master Sergeant J. F. Dean of Bedford, formerly of Paces, and Pfc, Frank Mangrum of Route 1. [_ Ltj Viccellio was a combat pilot in the European area where be has been serving for the past four months. Recently he had been awarded the Air Medgl for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial combat over enemy territory. He had been in action in France recently.He entered the Air Force in 1942 while junior at Roanoke College at Salem, and won his pilot's wings and the commission of second lieutenant in the Army Air Force at Brookfield, Texas. He is a graduate of Chatham High School.Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers: Pr. -Asa Viccellio of Alexandria, member of the Army Medical Corps Reserve; Robert F. Vicceiio of Norfolk; four sisters: Lt. (j.g.) Nancy Viccellio, USNRW, and Miss Anne Katherine .Viccellio of Washington, D. C,; Miss Mary Parrish Viccellio of Farmville Teachers College; and Mrs. W. E. Dickerson of Chatham.Pfc. Frank Mangrum, 22. who was killed in action in France on July 26, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Mangrum of Route 1, Danville.A veteran of Sicilian campaign where he arrived in June, 1943, Pfc. Mangrum was later attached to an infantry unit that invaded; Normandy. He has been in coin- J bat service in France since in- j vasion day.Besides his parents, he is surviv- j eel by two brothers: Arnold Mangrum. of U. S. Navy; and Glenn Mangrum of Route 1, Danville; Three sisters: Mrs. Harry Pritchett. Miss Doris Mangrum, and Miss Peggy Mangrum.Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Dean received word their son. Master Sgt. John W, Dean, was killed in action June 17 in France.
