August 15,—The Ladeis’Industrial society river excursion is looked forward to with a great deal of pleasure.The cottages on llluIT Park are mostly rented to the L. I). S. church. People are now arriving. It is rumored there will be about 1(XK) on the grounds by next Sunday.Mrs. Emma Breeden and daughter are visiting her parents in Winchester, Mo.Capt. W. (lalland attended a meeting of the Knight Templars at Fort Madison Saturday evening.Mrs. Potfenbarger and .Miss Lola Sargent, of Springfield, III., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. \V. Doughty.Miss Cora Vounkin will teach the Valley school this winter.Miss Annie Kennedy is attending Normal at Keokuk this week.Mrs. Ci. (i. Hamilton, of Fort Madison is being entertained by her legion of friends at this place.R. L. Reed is now occupying the best business house in this city. He has moved his stock of hardware in the Odd Fellows building.Miss Streighter, of Keokuk, who has visited Mrs. Yandine at this place has returned home.The Hotel Montrose has changed proprietors. John Scott is now landlord.Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Wright, of Burlington, are in attendance at Bluff park L.D. S. Reunion.Quite a delegation from this place will attend Old Settlers reunion at Fort Madison, Sept. 1.Mrs. Jane Ray, who has been visiting at West Point, 111., has returned home to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. David Houghton.Miss Mamy Patton is attending nor mal at Carthage this week.K. B. Magoun has a job lot of sewing machine needles.Elder Wm. Lambert and wife, of Rock Creek, were in the city Monday, guests of their brother, John Lambert.Mrs. Emma Myers will go to Carthage this week to a specialist who will treat her for goiter of the neck. Mrs. Win. Cassady will accompany her to be treated for cancer.Mrs. Wm. Liddle and daughter and Miss Ellen Malcolm spent a few days in this city, the guests.of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Petty.F. Armentrout spent last Saturday at Keokuk.A representative of the Fort Maui son Dknocrat was in the city Thurs day.Grandma Worster, who has been visit ing her children at Keokuk, has returned home.Rev. John Kennedy tilled the pulpit of the Presbyterian church Sunday morning in the absence of Rev. Fisher, who is visiting at the parental home at New York.Mrs. A. T. Druse and family are visiting relatives at Revere, Mo.Mr. F.
