Mateer, of Madera, who is a member of the first Service Group to land in Normandy after D-Day. The group with which Cpl. Mateer is serving as a sheet metal specialist, has the job of supply and; maintenance for the Ninth Air Force fighter planes which operate from advance airstrips in Normandy. Cpl. Mateer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Mateer ofโ1 Madera, is a graduate of the Bigler Township high school and j was employed by the Yorkshire Coal Company before entering' the service.
