Earl took the examination at Sioux City last week and Friday notice was received that he had pas-11 sod. Ear! is one of Algo mi’s promts-1 i .mg' young men and has made good in school work. Lust year he was city superintendent at Monona, Iowa and was re-elected at an increase of salary. His friends are congratulating him on his success.WOUNDED IN FRANCE.Rufus Keyes, Former Milwaukee Operator at Algona, Now at Quebec.— Shoulder Shattered By Shell.A letter was received by a friend last week from Rufus Keyes, who several years ago was an operator at the Milwaukee depot. He enlisted in the Canadian army and served in the French trenches. A fragment of a bursting shell shattered one shoulder and after spending several months in a hospital in England, he has returned to Canada, where he holds a position as instructor in the civil service department. For several months nothing was heard from him and his friends feared he had been killed. He receives a pension of $10 a monthfrom the British government.
