But the pictures are both significant in so far as they were the first to be taken of either of the two. And that isn’t all. Mr. Bean rvas two and one-half years old when this was taken and the picture teas snapped to marie the first day that he wore a suit. It was on this day that he graduated from swaddling clothes, and he was allowed to wear a suit that would place him in the rank and file of young 'boyhood. He even xvorediis most prized possession, a pair of striped socks and, being a typical and modest boy, insisted that Ids dog Major pose with him.Mrs. Bean, who was then Miss Olive Klingholz,, was eight years old^wlicnhepic-ture was taken and what a time she had preparing forMRS. The evening previous to her debut before the camera was spent in wrapping her silky hair around numerous paper clippers so the “crowning*glory would be just right. It was in perfect order, as is noted by the picture, and the price of vanity, paid by an uncomfortable night of sleeping on a pillow full of paper clippers, was worth the sacrifice as the result indicates.M. Bean, in those days probably intent on becoming a policeman or candy clerk, became a railroad engineer and for the past forty-six years has been employed by the Chicago North Western Road.%
