C. H. Swimm, U.S.N.R., to Mr. and Mrs. E. Parichy of 1113 Harlem avenue, Forest Park, in notifying them that their son, Emery William Parichy, Quartermaster, was missing in a blast aboard a minesweeper on July 5 somewhere off the coast of France.‘‘In addition, outside his duties, continued the officer, “he exerted a strong influence over all his shipmates for everything that was fine and clean. His loss will be deeply felt by all of us for a very, long time.”Bill was last seen in the mess hall, and did not answer to muster, nor was he seen again,”wrote Lt. Swimm. Six of the 125 men aboard the ship were listed as missing.Inducted into the Navy on January 20, 1943, Bill was assigned to the minesweeper shortly after he completed his “boot” training.
