Tho 37th aud 38th WisconHtn Uogt.s..Mil, Kditok.—1 see by an extract of a letter from ** A Private In an Orange Co. Regiment in Gruut's Ai my, inserted in your paper the latter part of June, the following remark*; “ i aaw two Wisconsin regiment* yesterday, the U7th and 3sth, enlisted for one hundred day-*, to do garrison duty.Grant has brought thnu to the front, to dogarrison duty before itichmoud.” In answerto that assertion let me say, thorn; regimentswere enlisted for three years or during the war, with a full knowledge of the great re-sponsi hi lilies resting upon them, and a determination to act their part, whereverplaced. I he most of them had then for the tirst time pul their band to the paper, that pledged their labor for three years to their country, aud their strong shoulders to the wheel that should move the car of liberty and equal rights safely on to that goal to which our noble President hud ticketed her. But others of them knew the stern realities of a soldier’s life, and would spurn the thought of relinquishing their jkMs till Freedom’a banner waves over all our noble Slatesa» of yore. Some of those men have done“garrison duty’’ in Itichmoud already—the only difference being that the men who wereincarcerated in those loathsome cells ot Libby Prison, are now on the outside, guarding those; Rebels who starved our noble soldiers from Heciug front their just deseits.The writer of that article adds, “Grant makes the baud bos soldier* light. Whitecollars and patent it ather boot* are played out. He lights men for what they areworth. The author evidently emerged from a band box to write the article, and then withdrew, for 1 cannot think any of our soldiers would make a statement, knowing it to he ialse. Vet who shall controvert thetestimony given by so many ol uie valor ofth« so regiments.The General Order No. 24, issued about that time, is proof enough that those were not “ bandbox men. An extract from thatorder says:“ It aflurds me great satisfaction to congratulate you and your gallant corps on tiresuccessful ussauit on the moruiug ol tHe 17ih,knowing the wearied condition ot your men from the night march ol over 22 ruth s.
