Stale To Take Over(amp Ritchie May 1Over $6,000,000 Spent on the Cascade Camp Since 1941Camp Ritchie, which was turned over to the Army nearly five years ago, will be returned to state jurisdiction May 1, Governor O’Conor announced yesterday.The Governor said he had received a letter from Secretary of War Patterson giving official sanction to the transfer of the post located at Cascade,O'Conor said he was asking the State Department of Health to take immediate steps to make the camp’s hospital facilities available for a state chronic disease hospital to relieve crowded Baltimore hospitals and to take care of Western Maryland cases.The camp, on which the Federal Government spent more than $6,* 000,000 since 1941, also will be used for training the State Guard and an expanded National Guard, O’Conor said.Erected in 1943 by the Army, tho hospital provides 250 beds in a series of one-story units connected by closed, heated corridors.Camp Ritchie was established during the twenties as a summer encampment for the National Guard. The Army used it first as a recreation camp and in 1942, expanded it lor use as a mlitary in telligence training center.U/lll
