Melvin Price (D., 111.), a member, of the joint congressional atomic committee and one ^ve House members who watched the Yucca Fiat explosion from a neck-high trench three and a half miles from the target, said one building believed in a “safe zone was burned to the ground.-He estimated it was more than two miles from ground zero.Rep. Olin E. Teague (D„ Tex.) said the same blast here would practically have burned Washington to the ground.Teague said the blast effect was an almost unbelievable thing, but that the fire and heat impressed him as possibly even more damaging.
