To top off our Ripley week we were given passes to see, “We ^Vill Never Die,” the mass memorial dedicated to the 2,000,000 Jewish dead in Europe. Such men as Ben Hect, Billy Rose, and Moss Hart took over the technical aspects of the pageant, while people like Edward G. Robinson, Paul Muni and Sylvia Sidney took acting parts. The pageant was held under the patronage of representatives of the European countries occupied by Germany—namely, their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Belgium, Greece, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Luxembourg, and the French National Committee. The Ambassadors and their wives were seated in special boxes—each having in front the flag of their native country. The purpose of this production was that the Stateless and Palestinian1 Jews be helped in organizing a stand-1 ing army so that they might contribute in winning the war. Just as the pageant was ending, one of the nar-1 rators, Edward G. Robinson, looked ■ up and said to the audience before , him, “We are the cast in this show, but you out there are the real cast. ! You 'are the ones who can do something about this.” No one could have imagined there could be such a silence—but throughout the whole Constitution Hall filled with people you could not hear the slightest sound, nor were there many dry eyes. This presentation, “We Will Never Die” proved to be one of the most powerful productions Official Washington has had the privilege to see. I hope now that the great cast privileged to see it will take over the parts immediately.
