A Canadian survivor tells ofhow more than 1800 starved and weakened Allied airmen were forced out on a two-mile march —and beaten and bayoneted every inch of the way.The prisoners originally were held in a prison camp in East Prussia, but because of the Russian advance they were moved farther inside Germany. They were sent by train to Memel, and then by boat to Swinemunde.The Canadian—Warrant Officer Armand Pambrun of Manitoba—says the trouble started when they left the boat to begin the last leg of their journey. Young German Marines, all about 18 years old, clubbed and jabbed the fliers to tempt them to escape. If they tried, they were mowed down by machine guns.A Nazi officer yelieu “quick march” and as the men started running the Marines closed in with fixed bayonets. They slashed at the fliers, and hit them with rifle butts when they stumbled.This was not enough for the Nazis. Then they released police dogs who rushed in, biting and snapping.Warrant Officer Pambrun says that all along the roadside German civilians stood by and laughed.Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Brill, 738 Harmony street, received word from the War Department yesterday that their youngest son, Pvt, Marion Brill had been killed in action on April 3. No details were given, but it is known that Pvt. Brill was with the Seventh Army infantry, and it is believed by his parents that his death came in the drive on Nuernberg, Germany.Pvt. Brill was 19 years of age, reaching that age only a short time ago while in France. He is believed to be the first boy from the Neosho high school graduating class of 1945 to be killed. He would have graduated this year, but entered the service May 20, 1944, after finishing his Junior year, where he was one of the most popular students—a three-year football man. He was on the championship 1942 team and the 1943 squad which won a co-championship. A brother, Sgt. Nelson Ray Brill, ten years his sen-; ior, is in France with a Quarter-! master Corps depot.
