Melvin Cassada Funeral TodayThe funeral of Melvin Lee (Mel)Cassada was to be conducted from the Mt. Hermon. Baptist Church this afternoon at 3 o'clock with interment following In Highland Burial Park.The 83-year-old resident of the Mt. Cross road died Saturday night after being in declining health for seven years. :A native of Halifax county, Mr. Cassada was born November 1A 1866, a son of the late Oliver and Susie Rickman Cassada. He spent most of his life in the Mt. Hermon community but five years ago moved to the Mt. Cross area.He was a well-known farmer in Pittsylvania county and was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist church. His wife, Mrs. Lettie Virginia Woodson Cassada, died February 15, 1943.The deceased is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Charlie Ashworth of Leesburg, N. C.; Mrs. Leonard Holley of Danville route two; Miss Rosa Cassada and Mrs, Will Ashworth, both of the home; T. A. Cassada and Tom Cassada, both of Danville route two; Lonnie Cassada of Dry Fork, Curtis Cassada and Carson Cassada, both of Danville.Also left are three sisters, Mrs. Amanda Pickerai of Lynchburg, Mrs. Patsy High of Jamestown, N. C., and Mrs. Mag Brown of Danville route two; two brothers. Calvin Cassada, also of Danville route two, and Jack Cassada of Gibsonville, N. C., 48 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
