Mississippi, and with th outbreak of the Civil War joined Confederate regiment as cook. 11 was an #ve witness of many of th principal battles in that great confliei including Manassas. Kull Run. Chici umauga. Wilderness. Seven Days Fight, Cold llarbor and Antietam. 11 often saw Generals Ixingstreet. Bragi A. P. Hill and A. S. Johnson. He helj ed to nurse the sick and woundei bury the dead and look after the con tofts of the men in his regiment. H states that there were more men kil ed in Antietam in twenty minute than will ever take pla e in any Kurt pean battle. ,“After the battle.'* he states. “Cnio and Confederate soldiers lay so thic in Bloody l«ane' that they looked lik sacked grain. At the close of the wa he cam** to Cumberland, where li worked in hotels and private home ! l.ater he engaged in following h trade as broommaker. He has eleve children living and has 29 grande hi dren.Since coming to Cumberland he eItahlished himself as a good and indu trious citizen
