(t live in.FAREWELL AND GOOD LUCK.After a stay o£ more than three years in Laredo, the Ninth Infantry, one of the finest organizations in the United States army, left this morning for other parts, Wherever their lot may he east, the people of Laredo havo nothing but good wishes for the future micccss and prosperity of their friends of the Ninth Infantry. May they meet with all the goodluck that wo feel Is their justdesert.The Ninth Infantry came here at a critical period for Laredo, The city across the way had been attacked in a two-day battle by the opponents of the then existing gov-ermnment, and although the attackwas unsuccessful, there were rumors of ollter attacks to come and the feeling between the two countries was such that an open rupture was momentarily expected.Hardly had the Ninth been settled here when the. order was issued to land forces in Vera Cm?, because of the refusal to make reparation for the insult to our flag and uniform, i and three days later the garrison of; Ntjero Laredo, after blowing up the] American consulate and firing the! city, departed with dire threats j against the people of Laredo.
