Central commission of f police in Algiers 5, OOOfr., prison functionaries 10,OOOfr. charity 3,OOOfr,, material, theatres, rewards, 70,000 francs. The ielegrapMc service costs 790,OOOfr. The native service includes a political bureau at Algiers, 3 divisionary directors, 30 Arab bureaux, 98 kadis, who together receive 238,700fr. The native chiefs invested with command are : 6 kaiiphs, 5 back-agas, 43 agas, Ac., who receive 290,OOOfr. Amongst divers .expenditures are: justice 66,OOOfr,, mussuhnan religion 66,OOOfr., public instruction 58,OOOfr., maintenance of hostages Ac. 241,300 francs, pilgrimage expenses to Mecca 20,000 francs, interpreters 200,000 francs. The native troops comprise: infantry, 3 battalions of trailleuxs, 141 officers, 2,990 soldiers and non-commissioned officers, whose j pay amounts to 2,012,873fr.; three regiments of spakis | (cavalry), with a pay of 4,916,107 francs; total expenses i of the troops, 8,539,040fr. The naval service costs 1,054, OOOfr. The financial service l,680,750fr. Colonisation, public roads, Ac., 2,928,800fr. The establishments • of discipline at Lambessa, Ac., comprise 1,300 individuals, whose cost is 750,OOOfr., and 800 con-■ demned to irons 400,OOOfr. The civil works figure for, i administration 605,670fr., for maintenance of roads I 700,OOOfr., for extraordinary works in roads, draining,1 public buildings, Ac., 5,395,OOOfr. Finally, the secret j expenses are 150,OOOfr. This closes the war budget, the 1 ordinary demands of which amount to 340,223,143fr.”
