The most famous school for you tig women in Kentucky when Mrs. Baird was a girl was that of Mrs. Tevis. at Shelbyvdle. In this school she was educated. Missouri became her home. During the civil war she conducted a school in Springfield. III. After her return to her adopted state she served four vear* as principal of Clay seminary, at Li erty. For «ix years she was president of In^leside college, at Palmyra, and lor a like period of rime she served Hardin college. Mexico. Mo . as its chief executive officer. Baird college. Clinton. Mo., is so called in honor of Ibis great woman Baird college was erected in 18K5 Clinton wa» the home of Mrs, Baird from the founding of this institution until about two years ago.
