Decatur Artists Show Work at Art InstituteExhibit Made By Pupil* of Professor George Raab — Open Doting March.Progress of Decatur's artists is told In color, line and impression In the splendid exhibit which opens Sunday at 2 p. m., in the Decatur Art Institute. It is comprised of the work of Professor George Raab, his present and formar pupils.EXHIBITORS.Outstanding In the exhibit are the works of Herbert Ryman. Decatur boy, who is studying in the Chicago Art Institute; Dan Lutz, Decatur, also a student at the Chicago Art institute; Irene BJanucci. former student of Professor Raab, now painting In Chicago; Lillian Scaizo, Springfield girl and Howard Reesman, Clinton, student of Professor Raab. Miss Catherine Al-sip. Decatur girl who is studying in the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, is represented with some splendid charcoal academic drawings.Included in the list of local exhibitors are Mrs. Anna Cooper. Mrs. Nelle Dunston, Mrs. J. C. Calhoun, Mrs. William Ward, the late Mrs. C. S. Kelly. Miss E. Harvey. Miss Ruth Robertson, Richard Cole and Cephas Collins. The latter is a Civil War veteran and a student of tha old school.PORTRAIT.Irene Bfcnuccll portrait which holds the choice place at the Institute. the south wall of the south gallery, catches the visitor’s eye first. Rich In foreign character, the picture holds the attention. Several other of Miss Bianucds portrait works, hanging in the south gallery, axe of a close resemblance to the works of the - enaissance period-Lutz are showing lithographs. Mr. Hyman's are of more designed nature while the** of Mr. Lutz bear such subjects as Night Club ” Samson,” Mermaids,” -Tenement House Fire,” etc.PORTRAIT OF HIMBELP.Professor Raabs scene of a sky-mirrored river, flanked by industrial buildings, is an interesting ; study, and Wj portrait of himself, at work in his studio at the rear of the Art Institute, holds a wealth 'of detail. His depiction of himself is very true.Howard Reesman’i skillful work with chalks and crayons is a delight His subject, nudes, is well adapted to his fine understanding of anatomy.The Rymm watercolors, particularly the one in the west gallery, featuring an old copper kettle, lowstemmed Rreen glass and a cup and saucer of egg-sheU thinness, are delightful. The simple groupings he has chosen have turned out beauties in design. A group of five apples, for instance, is a study.Lillian Scaizo has progressed far In her chosen field of decorative, illustrative material Pastel colors are her love and she prefers water colors, poster pair.ts and colored inks. His lithograph* are marvels of technique and impression. The old medium of the lithograph is coming into Its own with the modern anists. Lithograph stone, not unlike limestone, but possessing a waterproof quality, Is sketched v..th a grease pencil with the desired picture. It Is then inked and punted, giving the effect of an etching.Both Herbert Ryman and DanLOCAL WORK INTERESTING.
