Johnson County Historical SocietySaturday — Bob Hibbs. local author, will discuss his book of “Historic Scenes by Mildred Pelzer 1934: The Pampered and Tragic Life of an Iowa City Artist.” Pelzer, who lived in Iowa City between 1917 and 1950, painted a series of murals in the Hotel Jefferson depicting scenes of the city's history ranging from the departure of Chief Poweshiek to the arrival of the first automobile in Iowa City. Currently, three of the Hotel Jefferson murals reside at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and two are in Longfellow Elementary in Iowa City.
