WITH THE SUMMER COLONYMrs. Robert Hall McCormick gave a large dinner and dance at the Swimming Club last Thursday evening for her daughters, the Misses Eleanor and Patty McCormick. There were 170 guests for dinner and over 200 more came in later for the dancing. The ballroom of the club was decorated with pink and orange gladioli and the comers were banked with ferns and potted plants.Mr. Edgar G. Youngs of New York has arrived at the Belmont Hotel to remain until early autumn.Mrs. Charles Platt gave a tea at the Yacht Club last Wednesday afternoon for Capt. and Mme. Paul Mathelot who are passing the summer at Edgefield Cottage.Dr. and Mrs. Foster Kennedy gave a ball at The Tides, their summer home on West Street last Wednesday evening, at which many officers from the British and American naval vessels were among the 20D guests. Russell's Orchestra furnished music for the dancing on the broad verandahs overlooking the sea. Dr. and Mrs. Kennedy gave a small dinner before the dance.Mr. .and Mrs. Paul G. Tuckerman of New York, who have been at Elm Tree Cottage at Newport since mid-June, arrived in Bar Harbor on Tuesday and are at the Malvern for the remainder of the month.Mr. and Mrs. Philip Livingston gave a dinner last Wednesday evening for the ranking officers of the British and American naval vessels in the harbor for Tennis Week. Mrs. William Jay Turner, Mrs. Ethelbert Nevin, Miss Constance Purdy, and Mrs. Olga Samaroff Stokowski presided at the tea tables and members of the repertory company assisted in receiving over 200 guests.Mr. and Mrs. William Pierson Hamilton entertained at luncheon at Thirlstane having almost 60 guests in honor of the commanding officers of the British and American naval vessels. Guests of honor included Rear Admiral William Veazie Pratt, U. S. N., Rear Admiral F. H. Brumby, U. S. N„ Captain W. E. C. Tait, R. N., M. V. O., and Commander A. K. Gibson, R. N. After the luncheon the guests gathered on the Tennis Court to witness a flag-raising ceremony of the British and American standards. Through the courtesy of Captain Tait, a bugler from H. M. S.
