Kiwanis honours two conununity members•V.By Dale McNishFreelance Writer^ hSTERN BUREAU:TWO OF Lucca's ‘■cotnmunily tiojsuies - Enid Watson-CKinsalvcs and Newton ‘•Cappo Ch’anibcis - were honoured by the Kiwanis Club of Lucca last Saturday for iheir sterling conlri-tnuion to communiiy develop-itient in Hanover.Mrs. Watsoii-Gonsaives has '■cen an educator for 48 years ina career that spanned a range of schools, including that of principal at Rusea’s High, Lucea Infant, Lucea Primary and Lucea Preparatory. She is also an organist, businesswoman, counsellor, church leader and Justice of the Peace.A past recipient of the Governor-General Achievement Award for the parish, ‘Miss Enid’, as she is popularly called, i.s said to be a household name in Hanover,She has ser\ed as secretary toparish such as the Chamber of Commerce, Hanover Principals Association. Hanover Lay Magistrates Association and the Jamaica Teachers Association Parish Credit Union,According to a citation read by Anthony Marks, principal of the Brownsville All-Age, -Ms. Enid is in fact a community asset, presently retired but still required.Domainseveral organisations in theShe has served very long and unceasingly in the public domain, a deeply religious person who takes an ecumenical approach to religion as she serves the many and varied religious organisations.” Mr. Marks said. Said to be “very outspoken but with a heart of gold”. Ms. Enid told The Gleaner that the Kiwanis recognition came as a surprise.••I’m really surprised at the gesture, but I’m thankful that people see the necessity... we are not going to get any of the (national honours) because we are so far away.” she said.An accomplished organist, she currently leaches mu.sic at the Junior Campus of Rusea’s. and plays the organ each Sunday at the Lucea United and Roman Catholic Churches.According to Mr. Marks, “music is her comfort. As an accomplished musician, she baa serenaded and sweetened to the hearts content.Newton Chamber.s, former Deputy Mayor of Lucea, dubbed “communiiy builder extraordinaire, was absent from Saturday’s function due to illness but his contributions to the parish took the spotlight.Cappo. former Councillor of the Lucea Division, has been involved wilh JAMAL, the Early Childhood Education Board, the Hanover Chamber of Commeice, the Hanover Jamaica Cultural Development Cominiitcc and a number of sports organisations,A founding member of the local Kiwanis. Mr. Chambers was cited for having worked wilh and been involved in every major organisation in the parish that has assisted in comnumity dcvelopmeni.
