Nymoreboxing cord1939The Boxing show atJ Townsend Hall in Nymore went off on schedule Friday night, but another almost complete rematching of fighters was necessary when the boys from Solway didn’t arrive. In the main event, Don English, who had not expectedto box and therefore undoubtedly was not in top form or condition, agreed to a return match with Johnny Richards in order that the card might have a bout of outstanding interest for the headline spot. Don had taken the decision in their first match but Friday night Richards charged in continually and gave him very little chance to make use of his advantage in boxing ability. As a result he handed English his first defeat in a local ring and broke a string of victories erf more than thirty bouts. Don was admittedly slow on his feet but credit is due Richards too. for his willingness to mix it up with the paperweight champ when others of his own weight prefer not to fight. Richards weighed 103; English 104.
