Monroe signstwo-yeardeal with HawksATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday signed guard Rodney Monroe, their second-round draft pick, to a two-year NBA contract.The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Monroe was the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the year last season at North Carolina State. He averaged 27 points a game, seventh in the nation, and was N.C. State’s all-time leading scorer with 2.551 career points.Financial terms of the contract were not announced.The Hawks said negotiations were progressing with first-round draft pick Stacey Aug-mon, who is expected to sign soon.“We’re talking and I expect (Augmon) in camp on time,” Hawks president Stan Kasten said Tuesday. The Hawks open their camp Oct. 4.The 6-foot-7 Augmon. the ninth pick overall in the NBA draft, was voted the NCAA’s top defensive player during his last three years at Nevada-Las Vegas. He participated in the Hawks’ July camp.
