Fort Hill Gets Back On Track With 24-7 VictoryThe YardstickC.G. Wilson rushed for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns and Chris Grapes intercepted two passes in the first half as the second-ranked Fort Hill Sentinels defeated South Hagerstown 24-7 in a Cumberland Valley Athletic League game last night in Hagerstown.The victory improves Fort Hill to 3-1 overall, and evens its »CVAL mark at 1-1. The Sentinels will host North Hagerstown next Friday night.Fort Hill, coming off a 9-7 loss to Martinsburg, were a bit slow out of the blocks again lastnight with their first two possessions being stopped on an interception of quarterback Craig Schisler ana an unsuccessful fourth-and-one running play.It was Schisler who got the Sentinels into the end zone and supplied the lead that they would never relinquish, with only 41 seconds left in the first quarter.Fort Hill needed only two plays after taking over on the South 45 after a 20-yard punt by the Rebels. After Schisler completed a nine-yard pass on a tnird-and-ten play, Eric Beal blasted nine yards behind McConnell on the short yardage play.Wilson then carried on five of the next six plays, picking up 43 of the 61 yards of the scoring drive. He started with runs of eight and seven yards, and after an incompleted pass, had runs of three and 15. The 15-ard pickup converted a lird-and-seven chance from the Rebel 25, and set up his 10-yard touchdown run.The Sentinels held South to only 12 net yards of offense in the first half, and held Freeman to 34 yards on 11 carries. Freeman, however, rushed for 93 yards in the third quarter, and had a pair of touchdowns called back (on the same drive) because of Rebel penalties.The Sentinels were forced to punt after three plays after taking the second-half kickoffand after a 41-yard punt by Todd Foote, South began its only scoring drive of the night from its own 24.Freeman rushed seven times during the 10-play series, and crossed the goal line three times before getting South on the scoreboard. The 6-3, 185-pound senior picked up 21 yards on his first two tries and two plays later sprinted 55 yards for an apparent touchdown. The touchdown was nullified because of a clipping penalty at the Sentinel 10.After two runs by Trevor Carr, Freeman raced 20 yards up the gut and into the end zone, only to have that run brought all the way back because of an illegal motion call.The workhorse tailback ran 21 yards on the next play to put the ball on the four, and bullied in for the score on first-and-goal.Wilson fumbled on Fort Hill’s next series, but a 49-yard field goal try by South fell far short.The Sentinels were in total control from that point on, and gained 68 yards on their next four rushing attempts. Wilson started the string of long gainers with a 21-yard run, Jim Furstenberg added one of 16yards, Schisler a keeper on the option play for another 16, and Wilson 15 more to put the ball at the South 17 as the third quarter expired.Wilson ran five more yards to the 12, and after a four-yardf'ain by Eric Beal, ran off the eft side for a seven-yard touchdown run to give the Sentinels the 24-7 lead early in the fourth quarter.“We were much more pleased with the overall execution and elimination of turnovers and penalties,” Sentinels coach Mike Calhoun said. “We played very well on defense, and gained some confidence.” Wilson finished the game with 140 yards on 16 carries and Schisler had 43 yards on only four carries. Beal led the defense with nine tackles and eight assists, and John Hudson had nine solos and two assists.
