Linton travels to North Central this Friday.Both teams made turnovers in the opening minutes. Linton’s .Brian Mifflin fumbled an Arrow punt, then Herb Abbott picked off a Sullivan pass deep in Miner territory to end a Sullivan threatBut once in possession of the football, Linton led by Jim Newtdn plowed its way into the Sullivan end zone Lintonmarched from its own 35 yard line, 65 yards, for a touchdown in nine plays.Newton carried the ball 38 yards on the drive including the final six yards for the touchdown with 5:12 showing on the clock Abbott kicked the extra point and Linton led 7-0.The Miner defense went toThe Linton Miner tennis team evened its record at 3-3 Friday by defeating county rival Bloomfield 4-1 on the Miner courts.Mark Fields started the victory for Linton, playing top seed for the Miners, Fields bested Oliver of Bloomfield in three sets 6-3, 6-7 and 6-1.Miner second seed Dwight Osha kept the Miner domination of the singles going by defeating Lorimer 6-4 and 6-2 and Scott McDonald, third Linton seed, ousted Stan Stansberry 6-3 andwork and held Sullivan. The Miners went back to work on offense off their own 16 yard line but on the second play Sullivan s Craig Fox picked off a Rodney Robertson pass and the Arrows took control on the Linton 13.On the second play from scrimmage Bret Dye scampered 10 yards into the endzone for an Arrow touchdown. Joe Eslinger kicked the extra point and the game was knotted at 7-7.The Miner punting game stuck the Arrows on their own 18 yard line in the opening minutes of the second quarter. But Fox, quarterbacking for Sullivan, found Mike Thomas open for an 82 yard touchdown play, giving Sullivan a 14-7 advantage.Sullivan started another drive with seven minutes left in the first half and 4:52 later the Arrows scored again. Dye, quarterbacking, hit Thomas again this time for the Linton seven for a touchdown.A drive by the Miners in the closing minutes of the first half6-4.Bloomfield’s lone point came in doubles as the top Miner doubles team of Dan Greene and Brad Spencer were beaten 9-7 in a pro set by Hansford and Lucas.Rick Tribby and Kevin Kramer won second seed doubles for Linton, beating Harrah and Barkley 6-7, 7-6 and6-3.The Miners will finish the season this week with four matches on the road and play in the I USA A sectional at Terrewas ended as Thomas picked off a Robertson pass. But the Miners turned it around as the Arrows’ Dye had a pass intercepted by Brian Mifflin in the Miner endzone with just 15 seconds remaining in the first half.On the second play of the third period Linton fumbled the ball and Fox recovered it for the Arrows. Starting from the Miner 10, it took Sullivan only two plays to score again. Jeff Bailey ran five yards for the third Golden Arrow touchdown Eslinger again was good with the extra point for a 27-7Sullivan lead.Sullivan marched 64 yards in four plays for its next touchdown. Blaine Bolyard ran 21 yards moving the ball to the Miner one where he took it in on the next play. Eslinger made good on the PAT and Sullivan commanded 34-7.The final Arrow touchdown came with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter. Bolyard ran 10 yards for the score, after the Arrows took control on the Miner 27 yard line. The PAT attempt was wide and Sullivan led 40-7.Linton scored the only points of the fourth quarter as a Miner recovered a fumbled on the Sullivan 16 yard line. David Bowman rambled up the middle for an eight yard pick up and then a six for the touchdown with 11:10 left in the game. Linton’s Abbott attempted the point after but was wide setting the final score.Linton went on another scoring drive, moving the ball to the Sullivan one but time ran out on the clock.Linton covered 191 yards of total offense in the game, 101 rushing and 90 passing. Sullivan 350 yards of offense for the contest, 197 rushing and 153 passing.The Miners had 11 first downs to Sullivan’s 14 and Linton committed five turnovers to the four by Sullivan.The Miners were penalized once for five yards while Sullivan eight times for 70Haute Saturday.Miners defeat CardsRANDY SANDERS (83) gave Linton its initial first down of the game Friday night in the Miners' loss to Sullivan at Sportland Field. Sanders was immediately hit by two Arrows before advancing the football.North Knox beaten 21-13■Turnovers and penalties cost North Knox Friday night as the Washington Hatchets ruined the Warrior homecoming 21-13.The loss left the Warriors with a 3-1 record as North Knox will travel to Mitchell Friday night.Washington drew first blood in the rival game as the Hatchets moved 68 yards in five plays for a touchdown. Kurt Jones hit Mark Smith with a 29 yard pass for the Washington touchdown. The extra point was good and Washington led 7-0.North Knox’s drive to the goal line after the ensuing touchdown was stopped by the first of two Kevin Ramsey interceptions of Tracy Clifford passes. But Tom Held got theyards rushing and 152 passing while totaling 17 first downs.Washington, now' 2-3, had 130 yards rushing and 125 passing for 255 yards of total offense and 14 first downs.The deciding factor in the game was the turnover and penalties.
