Indian Lose, 19-14, In Fourth QuarterBY JERRY ROBERTSThe Marion Indians played winning football Friday night until the fourth quarter when Tipton scored two touchdowns, and wonthegame.Marion took the lead in the first, quarter and maintained this lead until the final seven minutes when Tipton end Larry Geadelmann intercepted a long Marlon pass and carried it back to the Marion 21. Tipton scored the final touchdown four plays later.Following that play, Marion punched its way to the Tipton 25 only to lose the ball, on a fumble, and their last opportunity to score.The Indians received the first break in the game when Duane Schultz picked off a Tipton pass on the Tiger 40. Doug Reed then fired an aerial to Duane Schultz, who caught the ball going away. Duane was tripped up on the Tiger two yard line, and John McKean was called on to provide the score.A fine play by the Marion defense started the Lion's only sustained drive of the game as they forced a Tipton fumble on their own 27 yard line. Marlon marched 71 yards in 13 plays to score, and Bob Hoglund carried the ball the final yard.The Marion defense held Tipton's ground game under control, but was unable to consistently stop their aerial game.
