Team To BeatClark Nealon of The Houston Post, here for Friday’s Jacket-Lamar game, points his finger at the Jackets as “the team to beat in District 14-AA” in a story in the Post Sunday.“Over in District 14-AA of Texas high school football the boys say ‘Beaumont’ without hesitation,” Nealon writes.“But, this corner, without having seen Beaumont, will risk a vote on Port Arthur to he on top when district battling comes to an end Nov. 30.“Coach Tom Dennis has practically worn out the term ‘inexperi-} t ence’ in pre-season chatter, and, no j doubt, he's right. But the big, rangy football team that defeated Lamar of Houston, 13 to 6, Friday night in Port Arthur without the aid of Guy Nunnelly, bright star of last year, is going to be strictly o. k. by Nov. 11.”Nealon adds that the Jackets “are a little on the shaky side yet,” but that the club has a fine set of backs and a line that shows signs of developing into a typical, business-like Port Arthur forward wall.The Houston scribe liked several Jacket backs, including Bartleet, Pierce and Daigle, and says “Nunnelly should be the man to ‘make things hum.’ ”District fans should be able to get a better line on Livingston’s Lions this week, the Polk county team facing Milby of Houston, a much-stronger foe than Class A Crockett whom the Lions tromped on with ease last week.Milby, although rated among the tail-enders in the Houston district, displayed a stout defense in losing by a 6-0 score to Dallas Tech last Saturday, and should present Livingston's weighty forwards a good test.A better idea as to what the Jackets accomplished in trimming Lamar should also come this week from the Lamar-Riverside of Fort Worth game Saturday. Riverside lost 31-6 to Longview in its opening game.
