Tigers Turn On Steam For Last Minute ScoreHuge Following of Local Fans See Kyle Men in Second Game of SeasonIn the second game of the season for the locals, and the first game to be played on the new night field at Lexington, Coach Graham Kyle’s Rockdale Tigers emerged victorious from the tussle with the Lexington Eagles last Friday night, in what proved to be a thriller-diller to local fans. The score was 7 and 6.The Tigers were accompanied to Lexington by what was probably the largest group of local fans ever to assemble at an out-of-town game, and who were well repaid for their trip in the last three minutes of the game when the Tigers really got down to business and sacked up the seven points necessary to win the game by a hair!The Kyle men looked good in the opening minutes of the game after receiving the kickoff from I Lexington, and kept the ball the . entire time, except for three plays,1 during the first quarter. The real thrill of the game, however, came in the latter part of the fourth quarter when the locals received :• the ball on downs on their own r 31 yard line and took off on a ’ touchdown march that put the ball q over the goal line with only 45 t second:- to spare. The extra point- was gained on a running play after e faking an attempt to punt.a The Lexington Eagles chalked up- i their score in the second quarter,1 after being handed the ball on the1, Rockdale nine yard line, but their- try for extra point failed to pay s off. Mundy and O’Bier, scatbacks, . did most of the ball-totin’ for the- Eagles, and Mundy was a standout i at the punting job.In first downs Rockdale made 12 o 5 for the Eagles, and in yards g 'gained rushing the locals chalked n , up 217 to 92 for Lexington. The :i; Tigers tried only two passes, both r of which were incomplete, and a the Eagles completed 1 out of 6 n for a gain of 11 yards passing. y I The entire Tiger team looked p good, and showed unusual ability j in downfield blocking, tackling v and running. Jamie Alford played _ a whale of a game at end, as did Douglas Jackson, and Emerald Morris and Walter Heckendorn I were outstanding as guards. Crane had plenty on the ball with his running and passing, and Kyle did a good job of ball handling and 'signal calling. Morris ably took- care of the Tiger heavy work, as h well as passing, and Love, new d nan in the backfield from end d position turned a good game. Caf-it flt;-y did a good job as sub for leltend, and Robert Yoakum’s half e game in the backfield was out-2, standing, 11. I). Maxwell was a . powerhouse at tackle, and William h Brown turned in a good game at d tackle. Kyle and Morris werethe only two team members who d played the whole game.
