Dugger-Union goes to Turkey Run in a non rival game but the Bulldogs are looking for victory ; number one.* The battle plans are laid and both teams are ready for the 54th annual meeting of the two Wabash Valley football teams. Kickoff time is 7:30 p.m.Sullivan comes into the• contest with a two game losing streak. The Arrows opened the season losing 12-7 at West Vigo then beat Dugger-Union in a‘county rivalry before losing close games at Greencastle then last week at Sullivan to Brazil.. “They are a good football team,” said Linton assistant coach Charlie Karazsia. “They are big and use a variety of Offenses and defenses. They try to confuse the offense with several different defensive set ups.”■ One individual on the Sullivan squad who will attract a lot of attention from the Miner defense is 6-0, 180 pound halfback Blaine Bolyard. Bolyard ran a punt back for a touchdown against Linton in the jamboree and hurt Dugger Union with apunt return.Sullivan uses two quarterbacks with its offense. Brett Dye is the signal call in most passing situations while senior Craig Fox will run the club most of the contest. The most consistent Miner attack this year has come by air and Linton coaches hope the Miners can keep it up this week. “If they come out in that 52 defense backs, but if they use a six or seven man line it will make things a lot easier,” Karazsia said.Adding a little coal to the rival fires is the fact that Miner head coach Dan Galbraith, Karazsia and Sullivan coach DougGarrard played foothalltogether at Indiana State University.Bulldog coach Paul Steele will patch up his Union squad and go to Turkey Run looking for victory number one tonight.Scott Bowman and Bart Wayman will miss tonight’s game as each aggravated injuries last week against Paoli. Bowman is out with a pulledshoulder muscle and Wayman with a deep bruise on his punting leg.Jim Marcotte, David Jobe or Terry Bonham are top candidates for punting duties while Matt Hunt will move in at tackle on offense for and will go both ways for Union while Chuck Villian will play right guard for Bowman.Coach Steele is looking to Turkey Run to keep the ball on the ground more this year. In the past the Warriors have been a passing team but under a new coach this year Turkey Run has developed a more conservative approach to the game.Steele is also expecting the , Turkey Run defense to give the Bulldogs some problems. “They held Southmount to 13 points and they are a pretty good football team so you know their defense is decent,” said Steele.North Knox is 3-0 and Washington 1-3, but records never count when these two getLinton, BloomfieldW orthington victorsThe Linton Ms Miners took a close loss 13-15,15-3 and 14-10 atWest Vigo, while BloomfieldCentral won the first game of the match 15-9 but the Cards came back to take the next twotogether. In 1974 when North Knox went to the Class A runner-up position, one of the two Warrior losses was suffered to the Hatchets. This year the Hatchets have played some impressive teams The lone victory came over a class A playoff contender Southridge while the three losses have come to Castle, Boonville and South Spencer, all three class A or AA playoff contenders at this point.North Knox will again this week try to establish a running game. Quarterback Tracy Clifford has given the Warriors a passing team image along with two fine receivers Tom and Todd Held. Last week thepassing game hurt more than helped the Warriors.Going into the final quarter against North Central the Warriors led 13-6, as Clifford had an off five for 14 night passing.“If your passing game is off, you can get hurt, so we want to establish some kind of running game,” said Warrior coach Jim Beery.North Knox’s running game will be slowed a little by the injury suffered by starting halfback John Ingram in game with North Central Ingram will see only limited action with Mike Page replacing him on offense and Larry Skipper ondefense.K** S % ± - '1* »'i ’vConference games drawingattention of grid coachesBy United Press InternationalThe talk among college football fans this week has been mostly about Saturday’s matchup between third-ranked Ohio State and fourth-ranked Oklahoma at Columbus, Ohio, but there are two other games involving nationally ranked opponents on the weekend schedule that have far greaterhas won its first two games while Florida is 1-0.If Florida wins this game, the Gators would emerge as the favorite to win the SEC. The Gators don’t have to play either Alabama or Mississippi this year while Mississippi Statewill meet both later in theseason. Now, about that game thatattention. You hope to play with more intensity.”Oklahoma should be helped considerably by the return of quarterback Tom Lott to action, who missed the Utah game last week with a bruised nerve in his knee.“The quarterback is 70percent of our offense,” says SwitzerMike Harroll Rich Beaver Larry Skipper...Miner center ...Union center ...Warrior halfbackPave 3—Linton Dailv Citizen.
