The progress of modern golf architecture has created a desire among the members -of the Chicago Goig club for an up to date course and to provide funds for this change each member has been assessed $1,000.Seth Raynor, the Mew York ar- j ehiteet, has submitted plans which!4 ^will call for radical changes in the present layout. It is the wish of the : club officials to have as fine aj: championship course as any club in i the world, and the expense of this, j it is estimated, will be $170,000. jThe club has been the scene of! more championship events than any other club in this country, having had the national amateur event in 1897, 1905, 1909 and 1911, and the women’s national in 1908. Two western amateur events also have been decided there, these being in 1902 and 1907.Charles B. Macdonald, one of the pioneers of the game in Chicago, supervised the laying out of the original course t'wenty-five years ago. A few changes were made from time to time, and about ten years ago greater alternations wore made and the course heavily trapped. When •the contemplated changes are made it is expected the club again will bid for some of the national championships.* * * '
