We knew we had a good offense going into the season.”The North Penn squad, 0-3 under first year head coach Mark Casson, has also made big strides compared to lpst year. The Panthers are coining off a 30-7 loss to Loyalsock, but despite the score, the Panthersplayed well.“This is a vastly improved North Penn team over last year and the last few years,” said Loyalsock coach Kenny Robbins after last weekend's game.Casson can also see improvement.“I think we have improved. We block, tackle, pass, and run better than we have in the last couple years,” said Casson. “Plus we believe in ourselves and have a good attitude.”The game could attract as many as 10,000 fans, as last year’s reenactment did and that excitement has permeated both squads.“It will be something to remember Trom'ray high school ca-reer,” said Chris Morral, senior tailbaek for the Green Hornets. “To be involved in the first nighthigh school football game in Mansfield history is something special. And because North Penn is our rival in Tioga County, it will be a tough game that will have special meaning.”The North Penn team, whichalso includes players from Mansfield and Liberty high schools, is excited about being the host team for the game.“We’re very excited about being part of the 1890s festival and getting the opportunity to play in frontofalarge crowd,” North Penn senior tailback Kevin Olloek of Mansfield said. “This is a big game for us and we have to keep driving toward our goal of winning the game.”The coaches, Manney, in his ninth year as head coach at Wellsboro, and Casson are also excited about the game.“We’re really looking forward to it,” said Manney, referring to his players and coaching staff. “It adds some new excitement to a traditional rivalry for us. It’s a great opportunity for the kids to play in front of a large crowd.”RUSS MANNEYCHAD WATTERS“Inhigh school, I played in front of crowds that were 6,000 or 7,000 every game and on Thanksgiving, we played in frontof10,000 people. It really adds to the excitement of a game when you play in front of that many people. The only time I can remember us playing in front of a crowd that even approaches this was in 1975 when we played Towanda for the Northern Tier League championship and there were 6,000 people there. It’s really good for the kids to experience that.”Even though this is Casson’s first season at the helm for the Panthers, he was very pleased when he was asked to play in the game.“I think it will be a great experience for the kids,” Casson said. “Both teams will be prepared and it’s a game both teams really want to win, so to have a big crowd there really adds something to analready special game. The reenactment of the first night football game, which celebrated its 100th anniversary last year, will be done by members ofthe Alpha Chi Rho fraternity during halftime of the Welisboro-North Penn game. And following the game, a one hour fireworks display, which was first done last year, will be condensed into seven minutes. The fireworks drew rave reviews from last year’s crowd.Fans attending the GE Light Bowl featuring North Penn and Wellsboro are reminded that there is limited seating at Mansfield’s Smythe Park. You may bring your own chairs and blankets into the park. Ail fans must have an 1890s button for admission to the park. You may buy a button for $2 for both students and adults from athletic director Pete Hall at North Penn or Keith Tombs at Wellsboro High School or at one of the three gates entering Smythe Park.Fans coming from Wellsboro may park-in’front of the”RigfTschool along route 6 or in downtown Mansfield.
