Slot back Rob Elliott took the ball to the two yard line on the next play and into the endzone on the following play to give Gosnell a 39-14 lead with 15 seconds left in the game. The two point conversion try failed.Theragood led all rushing with 135 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Gentry rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown on eight carries. Fowler ran twice for 16 yards. Ellis and Jeremy Jernigan each ran twice for 14 yards. Elliott ran twice for nine yards and one touchdown.Peel led the Indians in rushing with 26 yards on six carries. Morgan ran for 17 yards on eight cames. Thomas ran for 16 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries. Braxton ran four times for 11 yards.Morgan led passers going two for nine for 91 yards. Ellis wenttwo for five for 49 yards. Fowler was one for four for one yard.Jerrod Kelly led the Pirate defense with six tackles; Dixon had five tackles one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery; Gentry and Kendall Lenier each had four tackles. Mike Pfeffor had three tackles,Gosnell head coach Max Briley said Motivation was the key to Friday night’s win.“We were a little bit more motivated (for this game)” said Briley. “It’s our first home game, our last nonconference game. The Pirate to Corning this week to start conference play“I think the key to the game was better blocking on the line of scrimmage,” he said. “We got dominated last week (against Trumann). I feel like we did a job on offensive blocking and defensive blocking. The men played real well. When you get good blocking on the offensive line, you’re going to break some long ones.”Briley said he was also pleased with the way the second team played.“I thought they played well,” hesaid. “We had a B game last Monday and play Hayti. We beat them 38-6. Our B team did well scoring two touchdowns in this game. ’ ’The Pirates will now look on to this week’s game against conference foe Corning.“We’re ready to get into conference play,” he said. “Corning is 3-0. We’re looking forward to going down there and winning their homecoming. We needed this game againt Hayti.
