On Northeast Jones’s first possession of the game. Dale Dunagin’s pass to Stanley Gaines was intercepted by Milton Clayton for Northeast Lauderdale. Later in the quarter, Chris Miller attempted a field goal for Northeast Lauderdale from the NE Jones’s twenty yard line, but the ball failed to make it between the crossbars. The score at the end of the first quarter was Northeast Jones 0 NE Lauderdale 0.and was nailed on his own 25-yard line by Jeff Barnacastle for Northeast Lauderdale. Johnny M c C o r m i c k intercepted a Northeast Lauderdale pass intended for Larry Brown from Paul Harris. Mike McCelland of Northeast Lauderdale lost three yards as the buzzer sounded to end the quarter. They traveled to the 20 yard line and were forced to turn the ball over on downs. Ronnie Williams started as quarterback for NE Jones. But on second down and three to go. Mark West fumbled and Syvester Betts recovered for NE Lauderdale. Just a little later, Billy Moffett fumbled and Jeff Barnacastle recovered for Northeast Lauderdale. With four minutes left to go in the half, Northesast Jones started on a drive which ended with thirty seconds left when Billy Moffett went four yards for a touchdown.
