Brown Is Pleased By Upset Win Over Chicago's BearsCHICAGO, (UP) — That smuf grin Coach Paul Brown wore today, following Cleveland1* 24-14 win over the previously unbeaten Chicago Bears, might be a warh-ing to the rest of the league that up until now he has been playing ’possum.However, Brown refused to go very far out on a limb in praii* of Friday night’s victory. He said “the ball did some mighty funnytricks. You could hardly say we licked them.”For a while it looked as if the Browns were going to show the same form that has seen them lose five straight exhibition tilts.The Bears took the opening kickoff and moved 80 yards for a touchdown before the Browns could get their hands on the ball. Quarterback Ed Brown hit end Bill McColl for a 42-yard pass and fullback Hick Casares plunged the final four yards for the score.The Browns bounced right back as t\yo errors by Chicago set them up for two touchdowns.The first came in the second quarter when rookie halfback Perry Jeter fumbled on an end run. Defensive back Don Paul pickedthe ball up and scampered 32-yards for a TD.Later in the quarter, John Petit-bon lowered the boom on Casarat, jarring the ball from his grasp. Linebacker Chuck Noll grabbed the loose ball and moved down to the three-yard stripe of the Bears. Mighty Mo Modzelewski smacked over for the six pointer from a half-yard out.Completely reversing their form they showed in previous pre-season contests, the Browns didn’t com back after half time and allow the opposition to run all over them. However, Chicago did pull to witMn three points at 14-17 before Cleveland got rolling again.Quarterback George Ratterman added the last touchdown on a 33-yard heave to Pete Brewster. A 35-yard punt return by Ken Kona set up the TD.An interesting sidelight to the game was the fact that Brown had to give up on Ms radio-helmet.
