Corn 14 Feet High Shown at RushfordShow5,000 Attend Two-Day Festival; Monarchs Win, 4 to 0.Rushford, Minn.—(Special to The Republican-Herald) —Corn stalks up to 14 feet long, and ears of corn more than 14 inches long were exhibited at the first annual Rushford corn festival which came to a close here Friday night after a two-day celebration which attracted 5,000 visitors.Because Thursday night’s entertainment, including a fireworks display, was raihed out, Friday night crowds saw a double display as the festival committee, “shot the works,” according to Elvin Humble, chairman.The .corn exhibit was regarded as very good, as the crop in the community was large and of good quality.Maurice Tuff, John Kopperud and Clarence Skarstad, all of Rushford, were first, second and third prize winners, respectively, on their exhibits of yellow corn.Leo Larson, Peterson, won first place and George Brunner and Harley Larson, both of Rushford won second and first prizes, respectively, on white corn.Colored Teatn Wins.The tallest corn stalk was exhibited by Mr. Kopperud, and the longest ear, 14% inches, by Sanford Vafcting, Houston. W. J. Kennedy, farming at Simpson near Rochester, won a prize for corn brought the longest distance for the exhibition.Mumm's band and entertainers, La Crosse, were on the evening's program Friday, and in the afternoon a large crowd saw the Kansas City Monarchs, fast colored baseball team, defeat the bearded House of David team by a score of 4 to 0. Grover, Cleveland Alexander, famous former major league pitcher, hurled the last two innings for the House of David team, and held the colored sluggers without a run.Serving on the festival committee with Mr. Humble were John Berg, George W. Julsrud, Arthur Vig-ness, Louis Kierland and Roy Stephans. __
