This article talked about the importance of our efforts to keep politics out of the journey. It was printed under the heading:SPEAKING OUT.On the morning of Thursday, July 15, we left Bethany and headed up the Rossburn Trail for Erickson It rained that morning, but the weather did not delay our travel Again, we had to contend with lots of gravel on the rail bed. We presented our plaque anyway. Our discussion around the fire that nightomade a lasting impression on those that attended.On the morning of Friday, July 16, we left for Sandy Lake. The weather was nice and we made good time that day.In the early afternoon, the day started to get hot which made it harder on the horses.As we went along the trail, the flies and bugs would attack us whenever we would reach a sheltered area with trees on both sides. We looked forward to the open areas where the wind gave us some relief from the bugs. Otherwise, we joked as we travelled and everyone was in good spirits, knowing that, when we arrived in Sandy Lake, some could rest for a couple of days, while others would go to Binscarth to participate in Ste. Madeleine Days.As we approached the town of Sandy Lake, a horse-drawn wagon full of Ukrainian band members led us into town while they played.This town went all out for us as many people lined up on the street Every so often, the parade would stop while a young Ukrainian girl dressed in her authentic cultural costume would climb off the wagon to dance to the Ukrainian band.
