A penalty was assessed against North Daviess on the kick off and on the second kick off Miner endKirk Sanders fumbled a Cougar swivel kick, giving North Daviess the ball on the Cougar 45 yard line On the Cougars first play from scrimmage Cox went to the air Pass interference was called on the Miners, moving the ball to the Linton 38 yard line. North Daviess fumbled the ball three plays later and Miner lineman Wayne Elliott recovered it.Linton committed another costly error during itspossession though as a pitch out from Dan Stockrahm was fumbled by brother David and North Daviess recovered the ball on its own 46 yard line The Cougars then picked up 22 yards on their first play, seven on a pass from Cox to Cochran and 15 more on a penalty against the Miners. Three plays and 16 yards later North Daviess had the ball on the Miner eight yard line After two pass attempts were incomplete, quarterback Cox kept the ball for a seven yard gain, putting the ball on the Miner one yard line On the following play Cox kept the ball again, going up the middle forconversion and cut the Miners’ lead to 12 8The Miners then got on the touchdown wagon and despite having 15 yards in penalties assessed on the drive, crossed the goal line with 3:34 left in the stanza.The drive started from the Linton 38 yard line as DannyEccles carried the ball for 14 yards and a first down. North Daviess was tagged with a 15 yard penalty giving the Miners another first down moving the ball to the Cougar s 33 yard line. The Miners were backed up on a 15 yard penalty to the Cougar 48 yard line. On a first down and 25 yards to go for a first down Dan Stockrahm hit Dave Stockrahm with a 25 yard pass for the first down. Matt Rice picked up six of his 46 yards on the following play, then Eccles rambled 15 yards up field to the two yard line. Fullback Rice went up the middle for two yards and the third Miner touchdown. The Miners faked kicking the extra point and Dan Stockrahm ran the ball into the end zone for two points and a 20-8 Linton EdgeThe fourth quarter startedpelled from the game Following a series of penalties against both teams, Linton had possession of the ball on first down and 25 yards to go on the Cougar 47 yard line Lmton picked up 13 of the needed yardage in two plays as Eccles’ replacement Brad Wagner picked up eight yards and Stockrahm five Stockrah-m then hit Sanders with a 10 yard pass and handed off to Rice for another three yards and a Linton first down. The Miners were assessed five yards before the next play for delay of game, making it firstdown and 15 yards to go The penalty moved the hall back to the North Daviess 20 yard line. David Stockrahm picked up five yards for the Miners then Dan Stockrahm hitDavid with a 19 yard touchdown pass with 5 26 showing on the clock. The extra point attempt was good and Linton led 27-8 On a second down and seven, the Cougars fumbled the ball and again Elliott recovered the ball for the Miners The Miners' last touchdown drive started on their own 44 yard line Rice picked up 11yards on the first play and the Miner cause was helped with another 15 yard penalty against the Cougars Following an incomplete pass Dan Stockrah m completed a 22 yard pass play to Danders However Stockrahm was injured on the play. Reserve quarterback Rodney Robertson came on tocomplete the drive. Robertson handed off to Rice for a three yard gain which moved the ball to the Cougar one yard line Rice was called upon again forthe touchdown plunge, a one yard dive with 1:35 left in the game.
